Webinars teaching about Transition Related Topics
Please see each of the videos below. Each relates to an outside agency that can help you and your child with a disability.
Considerations:
If a child has a moderate to profound disability (special class in special education), the recommendation is to start early with the Division of Services for People with Disabilities (DSPD), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and the Utah Parent Center (UPC ). The investment will be worth your time!
If a student has a mild to moderate disability (resource classes), the recommendation is to start no later than when the student is ~14 years of age, when the transition plan begins to be part of IEP. Applying for Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) services during high school years is recommended to help get to know you, try seasonal or temporary work, and prepare for what you will be doing after 12th Grade is over.
In all cases where a student has a disability, Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) is encouraged to evaluate the potential, support instruction, and assist with going to work - whether 2 or 20 or 40 hours a week.
If a student with a disability is planning to go to college, Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) and connecting with Weber State University's Disability Services Office is encouraged by the junior year of high school.
